Description from the seller
Marc Chagall (1887–1985) – Derrière le Miroir No. 225 – Original Color Lithograph – Mourlot / Maeght, Paris, 1977
Offered is a complete and exceptionally well-preserved copy of “Derrière le miroir,” No. 225, published in October 1977 by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, on the occasion of the exhibition of new works by Marc Chagall at the Maeght Gallery.
The publication is richly illustrated with Chagall’s works and contains as a special feature a double-sided original color lithograph by Marc Chagall created especially for this issue, on pages 4–5.
The originality of this lithograph is immediately confirmed by the printing note printed in the issue:
“Marc Chagall executed for this number of ‘Derrière le miroir’ an original color lithograph for pages 4-5, which was printed on the presses of the Mourlot print works.”
The original color lithograph was thus created especially for this edition and printed on the presses of the famous Parisian Mourlot printing house.
The numerous other full- and double-page illustrations document Chagall’s works from the 1970s with his characteristic motifs: lovers, animals, musicians, village scenes, biblical scenes, circus figures, and self-referential elements of the artist. According to the printing note, these additional illustrations were printed at Imprimerie Arte Adrien Maeght.
Also included is the contemporary list “Œuvres exposées” with 39 works by Chagall exhibited from 1971–1977.
