Antique Walnut Wood Post Box – France (Loire), late 19th – early 20th century. Height 25 cm x 21 cm, depth 10 cm. Weight 950 g. This splendid and elegant vintage mailbox is of refined French craftsmanship, dating from the period spanning the late 19th to the early 20th century. The piece is made of solid walnut wood, featuring a warm, dense grain and a beautiful original patina from its age. A distinctive feature is the monogram on a shield that stands out in the center: perforated and engraved with the intertwined initials "SC", a detail that highlights its provenance from a noble residence, a private club, or an institution of the era. It has the classic upper slot for inserting letters and three “spy” holes at the bottom of the door to verify the presence of mail inside without opening the panel. Complete with a side iron lock that is perfectly period-correct, with its original spring-loaded key that snaps the latch back to release the bolt. The object is presented in excellent overall condition, structurally solid and free from invasive restorations. It bears the normal and fascinating signs of time that certify its authenticity and historical value.
