This auction offers a unique opportunity for collectors: the iconic Solari Udine Cifra 3 dial watch, designed by Gino Valle, in MoMA Limited Edition (Museum of Modern Art, NY).
This piece is in NOS (New Old Stock) condition: it has never been used and has remained sealed in its original packaging for decades.

The “Cifra 3” watch, in the cylindrical version, is the smallest direct-reading watch with the horizontal palette rolling system. It was patented in the mid-1960s and is considered an icon of Italian design style and technology.

Electromechanical direct-reading
The watch assembly, consisting of the motor, the mechanical part and the rolling palettes, is made of PVC. The inner panel, however, is in polyester and glass fiber, screen-printed by transfer.
The case that surrounds it is made of three pieces:
1. a transparent front part, in polymethyl methacrylate.
2. a rear outer shell in ABS thermoplastic.
3. a side latch with a lever for setting the hour and minutes, also in ABS.
The movable mechanical components of the watch are: two palette rollers (one with 48 for hours and one with 60 for minutes) and a motor placed on the same axle as the rollers.
