Description from the seller
Splendid and majestic antique double bed coverlet, entirely handmade in crochet with an extraordinary and meticulous Italian artisanal craftsmanship from the first half of the twentieth century, roughly dated between the 1940s and the 1950s.
The piece consists of a dense succession of square geometric motifs, called tiles, skillfully joined together as it progresses.
Each motif features at its center a refined pierced medallion with a flower motif or an eight-pointed star, surrounded by a geometric lattice of chain stitches that gives the piece a vintage lace effect—lightweight yet visually striking.
The lower edge is enriched by a beautiful perimeter ruffle finished with scallops and small fans, also crocheted, which allows a soft and elegant fall along the sides of the bed.
The piece was made in the classic antique cotton yarn, the twisted Scottish thread, in the warm and authentic natural ecru shade, representing the raw color typical of cotton from a time not subjected to industrial chemical whitening.
It is a piece of high textile craftsmanship, typical of dowries and wedding trousseaus of Italian families.
The item presents itself in excellent vintage condition for its era, with a solid, compact yarn and no structural weaknesses, as well as free from obvious stains or macroscopic tears.
Being an antique piece made entirely by hand, it may show minor and natural irregularities or small signs of time that attest to its real authenticity and artisanal workmanship; therefore you are invited to carefully view the attached photo gallery showing every detail of the lace and weave.
Piece hand-washed, not ironed.
