The Arapet Icon of the Mother of God, or the Arab Icon of the Mother of God, is among the oldest icons, but it is known only by its name. There is no information preserved about the place and period of its appearance. Some date its appearance and consecration to the early 4th century, citing the specific year 301. According to others, the appearance of the Arapet icon goes back to an earlier time, the 1st century, and is associated with the Holy Apostle Thomas during his stay in India.
