Hand-carved African buffalo sculpture in dark green stone, verdite.
A striking and substantial African buffalo sculpture, hand-carved and finely polished with a distinctive dark green to green-black colour and natural variations throughout the stone. The sculpture has a strong, stylised form with carefully shaped horns, facial features and legs.
The piece has a substantial weight of approximately 2.7 kg despite its compact size. It is a decorative and collectible example of African stone sculpture and would make an attractive addition to a collection of African art or natural-stone sculptures.
The sculpture was acquired as an African artwork and is originated from Zimbabue although the exact provenance and type of stone have not been independently documented. The material is therefore described as possibly verdite, based on its appearance.
Condition: Very good, with some minor signs of age and handling consistent with a hand-carved stone sculpture. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
