Description from the seller
Vintage Cast Iron Wall-Mounted Corkscrew with Faux Wood Gypsum Plaque - Complete with T-Handle Worm - 1980s
A charming and fully functional vintage mechanical wall-mounted corkscrew dating from the late 20th century (circa 1980s-1990s).
This distinctive barware piece features a robust, heavy-duty cast iron rack-and-pinion mechanism mounted onto a solid gypsum (plaster) backing plaque.
The plaque has been masterfully molded and hand-painted to realistically mimic natural wood grain, beautifully accented with high-relief details of grapes, grapevines, and a classic wine barrel.
Unlike many surviving examples where pieces have gone missing over the decades, this lot is completely whole.
It includes its original, matching independent T-handle manual corkscrew.
[How it Works]
1. The manual T-handle corkscrew is twisted into the wine bottle's cork.
2. The curved handle of the corkscrew is hooked into the cast iron rack carriage at the top, while the bottle neck rests securely in the barrel-shaped lower cradle.
3. Lowering the heavy side lever smoothly drives the gears upward, pulling the cork out flawlessly with minimal effort.
Condition Report :
* Overall Condition: Very Good vintage condition, showing beautiful original patina on both the cast iron and the painted backing.
* Mechanical State: Fully operational. The rack and pinion gear teeth are intact, sharp, and align perfectly with smooth lever movement.
* Backing Plaque: The gypsum support is solid and structurally sound, showing only minor, superficial age-related shelf wear on the edges that enhances its authentic rustic character. No major cracks or repairs.
* Please inspect the high-resolution photos carefully, as they form an integral part of this description.
* Material: Cast Iron (mechanism), Gypsum/Plaster (backing plaque), Steel (worm).
* Estimated Period: Circa 1980 - 1990
* Origin: France
* Dimensions : 41 cm × 14 cm × 8 cm
The product will be professionally packed and sent safely to your address by local post.
