Description from the seller
Exclusive and extremely rare mid-century modern wall lamp, designed by the iconic Danish architect and designer Bent Karlby for the renowned manufacturer LYFA (Denmark, 1950s/1960s).
This particular model is a unique variation within Karlby’s highly regarded 'Barcelona' design line.
Where the pendant lamps from this series more often appear on the market, this wall lamp version with adjustable swivel arm is an absolute rarity for the serious collector of Scandinavian top design.
The Cap: The wide outer shell is made of solid brass and features Karlby’s iconic trademark: the gracefully corrugated edge ("peepholes"), which provides a majestic, non-glare light diffusion.
The Inner Cap: Centrally around the socket there is a atmospheric, pumpkin-shaped dome built from flexible segments of cellulose acetate (an early organic plastic form). Through decades of exposure to UV light and heat this flexible shade has acquired a beautiful warm reddish-brown/orange patina that exactly mimics the beloved look of old parchment.
Small damage, only visible when looking from below.
The Construction: The lamp is equipped with an elegant brass hinge arm, allowing the light to be flexibly adjusted. The underside of the inner shade is neatly finished with a notched brass clamp ring.
Condition: The lamp is in a beautiful, authentic vintage condition with a characterful aging patina on the brass and the flexible inner shade.
No structural defects.
The wiring is functional (see photos for an accurate view of the condition).
Look closely at the photos, they form part of the description.
A museum-worthy piece of Danish lighting history that adds atmosphere directly to a modern or mid-century interior!
Well packaged and shipped with a tracking code.
