An impressive and characterful Otodus megalodon from North Carolina, with a powerful broad crown, a heavily mineralized root, and a beautiful natural appearance.
The crown features a soft cream to light-green enamel, in which the natural vertical growth lines are clearly visible. The fine, densely packed serrations along the cutting edges are well preserved and emphasize the imposing shape of this prehistoric predatory shark tooth.
A particularly interesting detail is the clearly visible bite marks on the tooth. These natural damages and impressions give the fossil extra character and form a fascinating part of its history. They show that this tooth was exposed to natural mechanical forces after its formation and during its fossilization process. It is precisely these traces that make the specimen unique and give it a story that you won’t see on a perfectly undamaged tooth.
The very broad, dark root forms a strong contrast with the light crown. The natural mineralization, rough texture, and color variations in the root make the tooth interesting to view from both sides.
