AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Late Roman Bronze Signet Ring with Linear Geometric Motif – 3rd to 5th Century AD

A Late Roman bronze signet ring formed with a slender circular hoop expanding into broad shoulders and a large, slightly octagonal bezel. The engraved face is decorated with a central rectangular panel containing a sequence of short horizontal strokes, bordered on both sides by multiple parallel vertical lines. The composition is geometric rather than epigraphic and was likely intended as a personal identifying or protective device when impressed into wax or another soft material. The restrained linear ornament, flattened bezel and integrated cast construction are consistent with provincial ring types produced during the later Roman period. The surface preserves extensive wear, dark brown patination and lighter mineral deposits, while the engraved design remains clearly visible.

Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 2.1 × 1.8 cm
Weight: 4.03 g

Provenance: Acquired in Germany. From a German private collection assembled during the 80’s.
