NIOMBO KNEELING FIGURE - YOMBE - DR Congo

Old male Niombo kneeling figure of the Yombe people who live in Congo.
Ex collection Samir Borro, a well-known collector from Brussels.
Now already long in my personal collection.

Materials: wood, glass, pigment, fibers, textile, metal, raffia, resin, tukulapoeder.

These figures, with their hands bound behind their backs, sometimes depict conquered enemies or criminals who fell under the jurisdiction of the chief (Mfumu).
In auction catalogs these figures are often simply labeled as "slaves".

Eyes behind glass, open mouth with 2 teeth, nails that represent tears.
