Antique Keris Luk 9 from Java - with brass-sheathed sheath - 19th / early 20th century
Description:
Beautiful and authentic Indonesian keris from the island of Java, Indonesia.
This keris is a traditional asymmetrical dagger weapon with great spiritual and cultural significance. The blade has 5 bends (Luk 5) and shows a beautiful, aged patina with a visible pamor pattern. The keris is recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.
Details of the object:
• Origin: Java, Indonesia
• Period: Estimated late 19th century / 20th century
• Blade (Wilah): Wavy blade with 5 Luk. Forged iron with pamor. The blade shows a natural aging patina and light corrosion, which fits the age. The ganja is still present.
• Handle (Hulu / Ukiran): Wooden handle in the typical Javanese pistol-grip form (model Deder). Nicely carved with floral motifs and dark patina from use. With metal mendak / selut ring.
• Scabbard (Warangka): Consists of two parts:
A. Upper part (Wrangka / Atasan) in the Ladrang Surakarta style, made of light brown wood.
B. Lower part (Gandar) fully clad with brass / copper with richly hand-engraved floral scrolling motif. Back is smooth.
This is a complete and decorative piece, very suitable for the collector of Indonesian ethnographics and weapons.
Condition: Good antique condition. The wood of the scabbard and the handle shows normal wear. The brass fittings have patina and some small dents / signs of use. The blade has been kept dry with aging patina. See photos for an accurate impression of the state. Photos are part of the description.
