Russian Orthodox icon from the 19th century, depicting Christ Pantocrator (the Almighty). Christ is shown in the classical pose: with his right hand he makes a blessing gesture, while in his left hand he holds the globus cruciger (or the opened Gospel book). The icon is equipped with a detailed, chased metal mantle, also known as a riza or oklad. This protective metal layer features a richly decorated nimbus around Christ’s head and a decorative edge with geometric and floral motifs in relief.
