Description from the seller
WMF Geislingen – large antique vase – Ostrich mark WMF/G – ca. 1909–1930 – 32.5 cm
Description
Large and expressive antique vase from the renowned Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF), Geislingen, dating from the early 20th century.
Of particular interest is the clearly visible historical WMF ostrich mark on the underside. The distinctive ostrich, the letters WMF, and the underlying „G“ can be seen, in front of a fully horizontally striped background.
This version of the WMF ostrich mark is dated in the relevant mark reference to the period from about 1909 to about 1930. The punch is clearly visible in the attached detail photographs.
The vase stands a stately height of 32.5 cm with an elegant, elongated form. The slender neck transitions into a flared body and ends at the top in a multiple-profiled rim.
Especially decorative is the broad, plastically worked relief band in the lower section. Repeating stylized leaf and palm motifs are framed by geometric and ornamental elements, giving the piece the characteristic decorative expression of the era.
The surface and patina developed over decades has been consciously preserved. The object has not been aggressively polished to a high gloss, in order not to impair its historic character.
