Description from the seller

Large professional kitchen vessel in copper with lid – ca. 1890–1920

Description
Interesting and unusual copper professional kitchen vessel, dating plausibly to the late 19th century or the early decades of the 20th century.
The piece features a distinctive tall, truncated-conical shape, with a thick copper body, removable lid and a long turned wooden side handle, attached to the vessel by a sturdy metal bracket.
The particularly slender proportions, about 31 cm in height with a maximum diameter of only 15 cm, set it apart from ordinary saucepans and link it to the tradition of copper professional kitchen pots (batterie) in which vessels of different shapes were intended for the preparation and heating of liquids and other preparations.
The weight of over 2 kg, despite the relatively compact dimensions, attests to a particularly robust construction.
The interior shows clear signs of use and residues/alterations to the surface coating, compatible with the original presence of a protective tinning, traditionally used on copper kitchen utensils.
An authentic European kitchenalia object, interesting both as a testimony to ancient professional cooking and as a decorative element.
