Sideboard - Oak

Large English oak dresser / sideboard with plate rack, executed in the Jacobean Revival style and dating from approximately 1920–1930.
This impressive piece is made of dark-stained oak and combines a large open plate rack with a substantial lower dresser section. Its design draws strongly on 17th-century English furniture and is characteristic of the Jacobean Revival movement that became particularly popular in Britain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The upper section features a tall panelled back with three open display shelves, suitable for plates, books or decorative objects. The lower section contains two wide drawers, each visually divided into two geometrically moulded panels and fitted with traditional drop handles.
One of the most distinctive features is the base, supported by six beautifully turned barley-twist columns. These are connected by a large lower potboard shelf, a characteristic feature of traditional English dressers.
The oak has developed an attractive deep brown colour and pronounced grain, together with a naturally aged patina.
The piece remains highly decorative but shows clear signs of age and use, including surface wear, scratches, small knocks and abrasion to the edges. A section of applied moulding on one of the drawer fronts is missing, as clearly shown in the detailed photographs. The rear also shows age-related wear and marks.
The furniture has not been cosmetically restored in order to preserve its aged character and patina.
