Superb and rare large deep dish of octagonal and poly-lobed shape in Longwy earthenware, created under the artistic direction of Raymond Chevalier (Art Deco period / Mid-20th century).
This piece features the famous and highly sought-after "Shanghai" decoration, characterized by a rich motif of stylized peonies in shades of pink and purple, accented with small cobalt-blue flowers. The geometric sections and the undulating borders are beautifully highlighted by rich fine gold highlights, typical of the factory’s high craftsmanship of that era.
Raymond Chevalier, who succeeded Maurice-Paul Chevallier at Longwy, left a mark on the history of the earthenware with the elegance of its forms and the modernity of its revisited Asian inspirations.
