Alphonse Mucha - Postcard - 1897-1897

Refined and rare original antique artistic postcard illustrated by Alphonse Mucha, one of the greatest and most celebrated masters of Art Nouveau and European Belle Époque graphic design.

The composition, the summer of the four seasons attributable to Mucha's artistic production at the end of the 19th century, features elegant female figures wrapped in soft drapery, long flowing hair, sunflowers, roses and floral ornamentation. Each element reveals the famous “Mucha style”: sinuous lines, decorative harmony, refined sensuality and a perfect fusion between the female figure and nature.

The drawing is plausibly datable around 1897, at the height of the artist's creative bloom. The postcard seems, however, to have been produced at the end of the 19th century. The back is divided, with the French inscription “Ce côté est exclusivement réservé à l’adresse,” which represents a typical feature of early illustrated postcards, when the entire back was still reserved for the recipient’s address.

The signature “Mucha” is clearly visible at the bottom of the illustration. Equally fascinating is the graphic layout: the image occupies a vertical side band, leaving a wide free space on the front for a hand-written message.

Unused and without inscriptions, preserved in generally good condition compatible with its over one hundred twenty years of age. There are light traces of time, small superficial marks and modest corner wear, elements that confirm its authenticity and historical charm.
