Upsala-Ekeby - Mari Simmulson - Wall plate - Ceramic

Upsala-Ekeby ceramic wall plaque designed by Mari Simmulson, Sweden. The rectangular plaque with softly rounded corners features a bold stylized animal motif rendered in rich cobalt and turquoise glazes against a pale, densely speckled ground. Incised and relief decoration gives the surface strong graphic texture, characteristic of Simmulson’s distinctive mid-century work.

The reverse is impressed “UE Sweden 8016M” and retains an integral wire hanging fitting.

A striking example of Swedish modernist decorative ceramics, combining sculptural relief, vivid glaze and playful figurative design.
