Description
Fascinating collection of 26 English vintage tableware items, produced by three well-known British manufacturers and featuring refined landscape designs in the English tradition.
The lot brings together three different series: British Anchor “Country Cottage”, Myott “Royal Mail” and Johnson Bros “Mill Stream”.
All pieces feature evocative scenes of the English countryside, cottages, mills, carriages, gardens and rural landscapes, realized through transferware decorations and enriched with delicate touches of color. The original marks of the respective manufactories are present on the bottoms of the pieces.
The lot is composed as follows:
British Anchor – “Country Cottage” – 12 pieces
5 bowls, 5 dessert plates, 1 large serving bowl/salad bowl and 1 dinner plate.
The design depicts a characteristic English cottage nestled among vegetation and flowers, in shades of gray, green, pink and yellow. On the bottom is the mark “Country Cottage – British Anchor – England – Est. 1884” with indication of the decoration under glaze. The Country Cottage pattern is indeed cataloged among British Anchor productions.
Myott – “Royal Mail” – 7 pieces
6 dessert plates and 1 dinner plate.
Elegant decoration mainly in green depicting English rural scenes and a distinctive carriage. Mark on the bottom “Myott – Royal Mail – A Genuine Hand Engraving – Fine Staffordshire Ware – Made in England”.
Johnson Bros – “Mill Stream” – 7 pieces
6 dessert plates and 1 dinner plate.
Rich floral and scenic decoration with a central scene of a mill/cottage immersed in nature. On the bottom is the mark “Mill Stream – Made in England by Johnson Bros”, with indication of the engraving and glaze-applied decoration.
