Description from the seller

Mask of the Bete / Ivory Coast, inspired by the Master of Gonaté, from the 19th to the early 20th century.

Traditional wooden masks are attributed to the Master, combining stylistic features of the Bété and Guro cultures (often referred to as Bété-Guro masks). Typical sculptural style: His masks are characterized by a striking, oversized forehead, pierced by a vertical midline. This line flows into a sharp-edged, almost triangular nasal ridge, combined with a slightly open mouth and a protruding chin.
