Two cast brass candlesticks in the German Modernist style, each about 50 cm tall with an 18 cm base, made in Munich, Germany, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Bruno Paul, Richard Riemerschmid and Hermann Obrist — key figures of Munich Reform Modernism — provide the artistic context for this rare and commanding pair of monumental German Modernist brass candlesticks, circa 1900–1915.
Standing an impressive 50 cm high, the pair is distinguished by an exceptionally refined architectural vocabulary: rectangular shafts, spherical transitions and powerful hemispherical bases, culminating in restrained candle cups. The absence of superfluous ornament places the emphasis on pure geometry, proportion and sculptural balance.
Their substantial multi-part construction, impressive scale and richly developed original patina create an unmistakable monumental presence. Conceived as a perfectly matched pair, they are exceptional decorative objects with strong appeal for collectors of early German Modernism.
Height: 50 cm each | Base diameter: approx. 18 cm | Weight: approx. 2.5 kg each | Unsigned.
A rare and sophisticated pair, remarkable for its monumental scale, disciplined geometry and understated elegance.
