Letem Českým Světem by Alphonse Mucha, 1st edition, 253 pages, original language: Czechoslovak, published ca. 1898, Art Nouveau in a 29 x 38 cm format, with discreet condition.
Description from the seller
Rare illustrated volume “Letem Českým Světem,” adorned with an extraordinary cover signed by the master of Art Nouveau Alfons Mucha.
In auction the two books realized over €13,000.
A work of great historical and artistic charm, this book represents an authentic testimony of the Czech- or Czechoslovak symbolist and patriotic aesthetics of the early 20th century. The cover, a true graphic masterpiece, depicts an allegorical female figure immersed in an explosion of dynamic lines and stylized rays, with a Bohemian landscape in the background dominated by a medieval castle: a powerful image that fuses spirituality, national identity and decorative modernity, an unmistakable stylistic signature of Mucha.
The composition is rich in refined details, with warm and harmonious chromatics, flowing lines and a perfect balance between decorative elegance and symbolic strength. It is not just a book, but a collectible art object, sought after by both Art Nouveau enthusiasts and collectors of Central European graphics.
The book, although complete, presents a printing anomaly namely white pages inserted between the pages with Prague views.
Volumes with covers illustrated by Mucha are increasingly difficult to find on the market, especially in appreciable conservative condition. This specimen represents a real opportunity for cultural and collecting investment, capable of enhancing any collection dedicated to European Liberty, authorial graphics, or the artistic history of Czechoslovakia.
A piece of great visual and historical impact, destined to stand out.
