Elegant and imposing 19th-century display easel (large exhibit lectern) made of solid mahogany, finely carved and pierced.\n\nSuggestive and scenographic, it stands out for a sumptuous openwork structure.\n\nThe upper capital is centered by a large, deep carved headpiece in the shape of a stylized shell, from which the two side uprights, entirely pierced, extend with wide clusters of acanthus leaves and volute curls.\n\nThe central rectangular-section shaft bears the characteristic reddish wood grain patina of the mahogany beneath and houses the mobile support slider, height-adjustable and embellished with a massive circular rosette-boss carved locking element.\n\nAt the back, stability is guaranteed by the original goat-foot base, connected to the shaft by a period brass safety chain with tight links.\n\nThe nobility of the wooden essence used and the fluidity of the vegetal elements make it a refined example of high-era living-room cabinetmaking, intended for scenic display of paintings or valuable prints.
