Already in Paris, Bugatti became particularly fascinated by the African elephants at the Jardin des Plantes.
In Antwerp he had ample opportunity to study their Asian counterparts in their spectacular enclosure, fashioned like an Egyptian temple.
Bugatti could be found there almost daily, and there he joyfully performed for the begging giants with their sensitive trunks.
