AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful double-armed figural lamp, depicting two children, one with a richly filled grape basket. Very decorative salon lamp in the style of Auguste Moreau.

The sculpture is made in pewter (regule) with a dark brown-green bronze patina. Fine detailing visible in the faces, the wicker basket, the grape clusters, the falling drapery and the bare feet on a rocky pedestal – as seen in the photos. The back is also fully worked with foliage and the lamp stems.

The two light sources have original tulip-shaped shades in opaline glass with a gradient from dark green to amber/honey color. The wavy rim and the veined glass texture are typical Art Nouveau. The shades sit in cup-shaped holders shaped like lotus leaves.

Figurative lamp with two children and grape basket - Pewter with bronze patina and 2 tulip glass shades - Art Nouveau -

Table lamp / Salon lamp - double-armed figurative lamp

Attributed to Auguste Moreau (1834-1917) - French school, Belle Époque / Art Nouveau. Not signed.

Antique figurative lamp depicting two standing children on a rocky pedestal. The front child carries a large woven basket richly filled with grapes. The figures are partly draped. The back is fully three-dimensionally worked with detailed drapery and floral elements that extend into the lamp stems.

The lighting consists of two cup-shaped fittings in the form of lotus leaves, each containing two original tulip-shaped shades in opaline glass with a color gradient from moss green at the wavy rim to amber/honey at the bottom. The glass is translucent with a faint marbling/veining pattern.

The sculpture is typical of the preoccupation with exotism and pastoral scenes around 1900, in specialist literature often referred to as the 'Blackamoor' type.

Sculpture and base: Pewter / Regule / Zamak with dark brown bronze patina with green accents (not solid bronze).
Shades: Mouth-blown opaline glass.

Height: ca. 52 cm
Base width: ca. 22 cm
Weight: ca. 6 - 7 kg

In good antique condition.

Patina: Intact, with normal signs of wear and slight polishing on the highest points (knees, drapery folds) – see photos.
Glass: Both shades in good condition, no chips or cracks visible in the photos. Small air bubbles and production marks in the glass are original.
Electricity: Original wiring.
WORKS PERFECTLY
Base: Stable
Origin: From a private collection, Belgium.

Notes for the buyer:
Classic and very decorative Art Nouveau lamp. Pewter is more fragile than bronze; handle with care during transport. The tulip glass shades are fragile and should be packed separately.
