Antique Column - 1850-1900 - Umbrella stand, mid-1800s

Elegant hallway furniture piece, umbrella stand attributable to the ebony craftsmanship of the 19th century. The item is entirely made of solid wood with a refined ebonized finish (black lacquer), a technique very popular from the early 1800s onward to emulate the precious ebony wood.
The structure is distinguished by a central shaft finely worked on the lathe with a continuous pattern of spools or diminishing spheres, which gives vertical thrust and plastic dynamism to the silhouette.
At the upper part there is a capacious shaped ring, also turned in concentric circles, intended to hold umbrellas and walking canes. The upper terminal culminates in a pinnacled decorative knob. The stability of the piece is guaranteed by a solid circular base, moulded, supported by spherical feet ("onion" feet), typical of the classical furniture tradition of the period.
