Kenwood KX-880HX top-class cassette deck
Made in Japan
The Kenwood KX-880HX is a high-quality, heavily built stereo cassette deck that was produced between 1987 and 1989. In the hi-fi community, the model is known for its exceptionally stable Direct Drive (DD) mechanism without a traditional flywheel drive, which delivers very low Wow & Flutter. Although it is a two-head deck, the addition of Dolby HX Pro and manual bias adjustment brings performance close to more expensive three-head models.
The KX-880HX processes the audio signal through a relatively purist analog circuit. When recording, the Dolby HX Pro system continuously optimizes the bias current based on the high frequencies in the music signal, reducing distortion and preserving more headroom on the tape.
The heads have been cleaned and demagnetized.
Some of the many options: Dolby B, C, MPX filter, automatic tape selection, MPX filter and a adjustable bias.
Forward and reverse playback operate smoothly, quickly and quietly; the deck is in very nice condition.
The recordings made with a good tape are of high quality and hardly distinguishable from the source.
