Set of 3 autograph letters signed “Brucker,” written by Raymond Brucker, Parisian writer and journalist, who at one time joined the Fourierist school before detaching himself and then converting to Catholicism in 1839.

Written in black ink on vellum paper, without letterhead.

1. Letter to Francis Wey, March 20 [1837], 4 pages. Brucker details his unpaid debts to the La Phalange newspaper, a cabalistic brochure left unpaid, personal creditors imprisoned at Sainte-Pélagie, the sacrifice of a novel out of financial necessity, internal censorship he endured on one of his articles, and his growing disillusionment with the phalansterian movement, while professing to remain a “simple soldier.”

2. Letter to Francis Wey, March 21, 1837, 1 folded sheet in the form of a letter, with autograph inscription on the back “to Mr. F. Wey, 23 rue du Cherche-Midi” and remnants of a wax seal. Brucker mentions Victor Considerant, leader of the sociétaire movement, and defends himself against accusations made against him within the “phalansterian family.”

3. Letter to Mr. Dauzat, October 24, 1846, 1 folded sheet, with Paris postal stamps and remnants of a wax seal on the back. A courtesy letter with no connection to Fourierism, proposing a dinner among friends.

Taken together, these three letters document both the commitment, the rupture, and the post-Fourierisme of Raymond Brucker over a span of almost ten years, and for two of them with one of his correspondents directly documented by Fourierist studies, the writer Francis Wey.
