Description from the seller
A beautiful set of three authentic, antique metal home savings pots (or passbooks) from the first half of the 20th century.
These kinds of mechanical savings pots were loaned to customers by banks and utility companies to encourage saving at home.
The key remained the property of the bank, so one had to periodically take the saved money there to have the pot emptied.
This unique set consists of the following three pieces:
Provincial Electricity Company of North Holland:
A very handsome Dutch specimen, manufactured by the well-known Lips. Equipped with a heavy brass plate on a dark housing.
Schweizerische Volksbank (Banque Populaire Suisse) – Variant 1:
A robust model with a distinctive centered handle and a dark blue/black finish. Fitted with the official bank emblem.
Schweizerische Volksbank (Banque Populaire Suisse) – Variant 2:
An elegant, smoothly finished model with gold-colored piping decorations along the edges, giving this piece a luxurious appearance.
Specifications & Condition Period: ca. 1920 - 1950
Material: Heavy metal / brass / cast iron
Condition: In good, original condition with a beautiful authentic patina appropriate to the age (see photos for an accurate impression). The mechanical parts and grooves are intact.
Key: Supplied without a key (as was customary at the time, since banks kept them in custody).
A stunning and decorative lot for collectors of antique bank ephemera, mechanical savings pots, or enthusiasts of industrial heritage.
The lot will be meticulously packed and sent by registered mail and insured with track & trace.
