Silver triptych reliquary formed by three reliquaries medals reunited representing the Theological Virtues – 19th century – Italy
Rare silver reliquary triptych, consisting of three oval medallions joined in a pierced mount. The frames are richly worked with scrolls, volutes and foliage in relief.
Each medallion, protected by a glass pane, contains several relics arranged on a fabric background and accompanied by handwritten Latin labels. Notably, the mentions of Saint John the Baptist, Saint Peter the Apostle, Saint Paul the Apostle, Saint James the Greater, and Saint Louis IX are distinguishable, as well as other saints whose inscriptions are more difficult to read.
The reverse sides, particularly decorative, feature three relief-sculpted religious scenes depicting female allegorical figures that may evoke the theological virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity.
Probably European nineteenth-century work, in the Baroque taste.
Good overall condition considering its age. Several tituli have shifted and do not seem to occupy their original positions. One pane is broken. Signs of use and age are visible.
