Box - .925 silver

Elegant European antique silver box or tobacco case, probably dating from the 19th century, possibly of French or Central European origin.

A small-format piece with careful artisanal workmanship. The lid is richly decorated with scrimshaw-like engraving, forming a delicate vegetal composition of flowers, leaves, and branches. In the center appears a small geometric cartouche with an interlaced monogram, a detail characteristic of personalized objects commissioned during the 19th century.

The sides feature a fine guilloché decoration, creating a regular texture that elegantly contrasts with the floral ornamentation of the lid. The overall piece retains an attractive antique patina that enhances the depth of the engraving.

At different points, old marks and punches are observed, currently partly worn by use and the passage of time. Because of its preservation and the difficulty of reading, it is not possible to attribute the workshop or city of manufacture with absolute certainty from the photographs alone.

Due to its stylistic and constructive characteristics, it can be placed within the European tradition of small personal boxes and silver tobacco cases from the 19th century.
