Lamp - Patinated bronze - Very heavy Art Deco

Extraordinarily heavy figurative table lamp with a stylized lion figure made of solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The lamp is approximately 70 cm tall and weighs about 21.55 kg. The design shows an expressive Art Deco/1930s form language with a stylized big cat/lion figure, large paws, an open mouth, and a dark patina. The lamp is functional.

Description:
For sale is a very decorative and exceptionally heavy figurative table lamp with a lion motif.

The figure consists of solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The weight is about 21.55 kg. The total height is about 70 cm. The execution is powerfully stylized and recalls Art Deco objects of the 1930s in its form language.

Particularly striking are the highly worked paws, the dynamic stance, the expressively opened mouth, and the dark, aged patina. Overall, the lamp appears very massive, high-quality, and decorative.

The lamp has a large opal glass globe with manufacturer/origin markings, including “Made in Czechoslovakia.” The existing old KUPP intermediate switch bears VDE/KEMA marks as well as the year 1936. The lamp is functional. The electrical wiring/socket/wiring routing appears to have been partially renewed later; electrical safety has not been professionally checked. Before use, the lamp should therefore be inspected by an electrician.

The wooden base is present and shows age-appropriate signs of use. The bronze shows patina, minor surface marks, wear, and age-related oxidation. A clearly legible artist’s signature or foundry mark has not been identified to date.

Condition:
Age-appropriate condition with a beautiful dark patina, minor signs of use, abrasion, and oxidation. The wooden base shows age-related traces. The opal glass globe is present and bears a mark. The lamp is functional. However, the electrical system has not been professionally tested.

Note:
Dating to the 1930s is supported by the stylistic classification, the old glass globe with mark, and the KUPP switch with the year 1936. The mark “Made in Czechoslovakia” refers to the opal glass. A definite artist attribution is not available.
