Statue - China - Late 20th century

Impressive Chinese ceramic statue of Guan Yu, also known as Guandi, the famous general from the Three Kingdoms who was later venerated as the guardian god of loyalty, justice, and martial valor.

The figure is recognizable by his characteristic long black beard, red face, martial bearing and richly decorated headdress. He wears a long green robe, richly decorated with dragons, cloud motifs and gold-colored ornaments. The combination of green, red, black, white and gold gives the statue a powerful and highly decorative appearance.

Particularly beautiful are the details in the headdress, the painting of the costume, the patterns on the sleeves and the dragon motifs on the robe. The facial expression is stern and dignified, fitting with the traditional iconography of Guan Yu.

At the bottom there are several impressed Chinese characters and marks, together with a round seal. These indicate mass Chinese production, probably from the second half of the 20th century.
