Description from the seller
MUSEUM-LEVEL FIND: Extremely rare Gritzner R "Selecta" (1910) with Unique Paris 1900 "Grand Prix" Decal
Looking for the ultimate showpiece for your collection? A machine so rare that there is not a second known example in the renowned archives and sewing-machine syndicates (such as ISMACS)? Then this is your chance.
This concerns a Gritzner Model R "Selecta" from the early spring of 1910 (Serial number: 1,980,004), built in the legendary factory in Durlach, Germany.
Why is this a unique collectors’ opportunity?
The Inaccessible "French Mystery": Where 99% of Gritzner R-models in our region are equipped with the standard gold-green Art Nouveau flowers or dealer badges (such as Lewenstein), this machine bears a full-page, highly detailed anniversary decal on the work surface.
The Official World’s Fair Medal: The logo is a faithful graphical reproduction of the prestigious prize medal from the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris (designed by the French master Jules-Clément Chaplain). To the left stands Marianne (symbol of the French Republic) and to the right the winged goddess of victory, Victoria. Subtly but officially, the brand name "Gritzner" is also embedded in the medal.
Exclusive Export Edition: This luxury decal was strictly reserved for the export market for France and Southern Europe. That this machine, produced ten years after the exposition (in 1910), still bears this limited decal and has survived in the Low Countries borders on the impossible.
The wooden case features beautiful Art Nouveau lettering. The kap key works perfectly but is a Pfaff key.
Condition and Specifications
Mechanically 100% Perfect: As you would expect from early German machine construction, the machine runs incredibly smoothly and quietly. The vibrating shuttle mechanism glides back and forth effortlessly.
Beautiful Patina: The machine bears its authentic signs of use with pride. No artificial restorations, but pure, lived history.
Complete Time Capsule: Including the original wooden cover with the large, distinctive Gritzner relief logo—and a rich collection of original accessories (diverse rare presser feet such as seam rollers, reserve needles, mounting screws, and authentic needle plates).
For the serious bidder
This is not an ordinary attic find, but a cultural-historical industrial artwork that has miraculously withstood the test of time. Online and in specialist literature there is truly nothing about this edition, underscoring its exclusivity and museal value.
