Pair of Victorian salt cellars with spoons – Sterling Silver 925 – London, 1859

Elegant pair of English Victorian salt cellars made of Sterling Silver 925 and assayed in London in 1859, during Queen Victoria's reign.

The salt cellars feature an elegant circular, slightly domed body, supported on three decorative feet. The upper edge is adorned with a delicate beaded moulding and the interiors retain an attractive gilded finish, traditionally used to protect silver from direct contact with salt.

The pieces retain their original English hallmarks corresponding to the London assay office, allowing dating to 1859.

The set also includes two Sterling silver spoons, hallmarked in Birmingham in the early 20th century. The spoons are later than the salt cellars and do not necessarily form part of the original service, although they constitute a harmonious and functional set.
