Description from the seller
Characterful, hand-carved wooden figure from the Black Forest, presumably from the first half of the 20th century.
The figure depicts an older man in traditional rural clothing. He wears a wide-brimmed hat, a long jacket or work smock, and a distinctly crafted apron with a pocket. Both hands are tucked into the pockets at his sides. The slightly bent posture and the sharply carved face give the figure a calm, yet humorous character.
The figure was fully carved in the round from wood and stands on a tall rectangular base. It is not color-painted but stained or glazed in a warm brown tone. Particularly appealing are the visible carving traces, the natural grain of the wood, and the carefully worked-out details on the face, clothing, apron, and shoes.
Age-appropriate condition with visible signs of use and wear. There are minor scratches, superficial soiling, occasional light spots, and natural dryness and stress cracks in the wood. At the lower edge of the base there is a small, age-related crack. No clearly visible larger damaged parts. Please note the numerous close-up photos that form part of the condition description.
Origin: Black Forest, Germany
Dating: presumably the first half of the 20th century
Material: carved wood
Execution: stained or glazed
Depiction: peasant or craftsman in traditional work attire
An authentic historic character figure and a decorative collectible for enthusiasts of Black Forest wood carving, Alpine folk art, and rural representations.
