Description from the seller
Luxurious Limoges porcelain table service, Haviland house, Diplomate model, 49 pieces.
Iconic today, the Diplomate collection was created by the designers of Maison Haviland in the early 1900s. The floral and ornamental motifs used for the decoration are undoubtedly part of the French repertoire; however their extreme finesse and arrangement reveal influences of Japonisme from the early 20th century. The reliefs of the design are treated according to the ancestral inlay technique. This exceptional know-how allows the porcelain to be finely carved to give the gold an incomparable relief. The bright gold is achieved by two successive gildings and an agate burnishing. The combination of inlay and relief grants this motif unparalleled finesse.
Originally created in 1916 for a Japanese embassy, with a blue enamel wing, it was later adapted for President Roosevelt in 1938.
The service includes
22 service plates diameter 24.8 cm
11 dessert/entremets plates diameter 22 cm
