Yamila Velázquez (Las Tunas, Cuba, 1993) is a contemporary artist who uses digital intelligence tools, currently living and working in Alicante, Spain. Owner and partner of a company dedicated to the sale, representation and development of artists and artworks, Velázquez combines her business vision with a deep artistic sensibility.
This young Cuban talent has established herself in digital art, using contemporary media to explore themes related to nature, landscape and the intimate relationship between woman and her surroundings. Her works address with subtlety and visual strength themes such as beauty, love, sensuality and feminine delicacy, always framed in enveloping, romantic and refined atmospheres.
With a vibrant and expressive aesthetic, Yamila Velázquez manages to fuse classical influences with a modern language, resulting in versatile, fresh and deeply evocative works. The sculpture portrays the image of Jesus Christ bearing the crown of thorns, leaning with his gaze lowered and hands clasped in a deep attitude of prayer, meticulously built with blocks and pieces of stone assembled. The work mystically connects with the tradition of Kintsugi — the Japanese art of repairing broken objects by joining their cracks with golden lacquer to exalt their scars — by allowing intense rays of golden light to emerge from the pronounced cracks that run across his face, hands and mantle.
