Description from the seller
OLYMPUS PEN EF, tested and working.
Hello from Japan!
We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.
The Olympus PEN EF (1981) is the last of the celebrated PEN half-frame line, and the only one with a built-in flash — a neat piece of packaging that keeps the camera pocketable. Like its siblings it records two images on each frame of 35mm film, so a 36-exposure roll yields around 72 pictures, and its selenium meter sets exposure automatically without a battery for the shutter. The PEN series remains one of the most admired compact camera designs ever produced.
Important — please read carefully:
Automatic exposure overexposes by about 3 stops in bright light and the flash-ready lamp does not light. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding.
Condition: Used — Good
Pre-owned, heavy signs of use, or minor optical flaws
Serial Number
Please check the photo.
Appearance
Scuffs and scratches from normal use. Please check the photos for details.
Optical Condition
Finder: Cleaned internally.
Lens / Sensor: Clear — no haze, fungus or scratches.
Functional
Automatic exposure and film transport work. The meter reads +1.5 EV at EV12 and about +3 EV in bright light (EV15) — see Known Issues.
The flash fires, but the flash-ready (charge) lamp does not light.
The battery compartment shows traces of old battery leakage; it has been polished clean.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder cleaned internally.
Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 1.5 OVER / EV15: 3.2 OVER
Some of these deviations exceed what negative film can absorb — please read the Known Issues section and allow for them when shooting.
Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
Known Issues
1. In bright light the automatic exposure reads about 3 stops bright and will overexpose.
2. The flash-ready (charge) lamp does not light; the flash itself fires — allow a few seconds for it to charge.
3. Traces of old battery leakage in the battery compartment (polished clean).
Bundled Items
Camera and lens cap, as pictured.
