An icon of world design—the Aalto vase (also known as the Savoy vase), produced by the renowned Finnish brand Iittala.
This design was created in 1936 by one of the most important Scandinavian architects and designers, Alvar Aalto, together with his wife Aino.
The distinctive, undulating and organic shape of the vase was inspired by the Finnish landscape—the shoreline of the local lakes and the form of traditional leather pants of Finnish Eskimos.
The vase gained enormous fame after it was exhibited at the Paris World Exhibition (World's Fair) in 1937.
The version visible in the photo is made of white opal glass (double-walled). Each original vase from this brand is traditionally hand blown in a glassworks in Finland
