Vintage bronze Cobra candlestick with lacquer finish - India - ca. 1960.
A highly decorative, vintage Indian cobra candlestick made of hand-engraved brass (yellow brass). The snake is beautifully designed in the iconic, alert stance with an outstretched hood. The hood and the winding tail (which functions as a stable base) are decorated with traditional red and black lac work, giving the engravings extra depth.
This type of handcrafted Hollywood Regency-style object was very popular in the mid-20th century and is today sought after by boho-chic and vintage design enthusiasts.
Origin: India
Period: ca. 1950 - 1970 (Mid-Century)
Material: Brass / Yellow brass, enamel/lacquer
Dimensions: Height ca. 18.5 cm | Foot width ca. 11 cm | Foot depth ca. 12 cm
