Description from the seller
Beautiful, in perfect condition, beautifully colored, very large XXL shell Charonia Tritonis - colloquial name Triton horn or giant Triton, is a species of a very large sea snail, a marine mollusk from the family Charoniidae, tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on the coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly coiled into the shape of an elongated tower. It ends sharply at the tip, gradually widening toward the aperture.
Strongly ribbed, with prominent spiral ribs and knobs. The shell color is most often yellowish, creamy, or brown with irregular, darker spots and bands. The aperture (shell opening) is large, wide, oval.
The interior is smooth, often orange, pink, or red-brown, contrasting with the outside of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate dentition.
Notable features - due to its large size and distinctive shape, it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell trumpet).
It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 120×180×335 mm. I highly recommend it to collectors and interior decorators.
