Andiron - Bronze - Louis XV Rococo

Beautiful pair of antique brass fire dogs / andirons.
The pair is shaped in the exuberant Louis XV (Rococo) style. Characteristic are the asymmetrical scrolls (rocaille), the pierced acanthus leaves and the graceful cross-flower/urn at the top. In the late 19th century (during the Belle Époque) there was a huge revival in France of these royal 18th-century styles. It is also called the Neo-Rococo style.
It is made of solid brass (or bronze) and is in a wonderful, lived-in condition with an authentic patina. The front is very richly decorated with pierced motifs, graceful scrolls and a characteristic cross-flower finish at the top.
At the back there are the sturdy iron bars on which the firewood rests. Even when the fire is not burning, this pair is a beautiful eye-catcher and a jewel for your interior.
