The Nikon D5500 is a DSLR camera equipped with a touchscreen LCD monitor allowing you to look from all angles. The camera features a 24.2-megapixel sensor and an EXPEED 4 image processor that captures high-resolution images and can offer Full HD 1080p video with remarkably low light sensitivity up to ISO 25600 and up to 5fps. The optical low-pass filter is omitted from the sensor for extra sharpness in both photo and video. The D5500 has a 39-point autofocus system with nine cross-type sensors and a 2016-pixel RGB sensor for accurate metering across a wide range of lighting conditions. Full HD videos can be shot at various frame rates up to 60 frames per second, with full-time continuous autofocus capabilities. The D5500 has a selectable audio frequency range. It also features a built-in intervalometer for up to 9,999 consecutive photos at variable times.

The D5500 body is slightly smaller and lighter than its predecessor, and is equipped with an optical pentaprism viewfinder and a large 3.2-inch 1,037k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD monitor. The monitor is 180-degree tiltable for better support when working from high and low angles. A variety of touchscreen features allow you to pinch to zoom, navigate menus, choose settings, and select your focus point. An eye sensor turns the LCD monitor on and off, starts the touch function, and initiates the playback function when you remove your eye from the viewfinder.

WiFi capabilities are built into the camera. These offer advanced sharing possibilities. In combination with an Android or iOS mobile device, you can control the camera remotely.

A wide range of Picture Control modes, Scene Modes and Special Effect modes are available, as well as in-camera image editing options for adjusting settings before sharing. Built-in HDR and Active D-Lighting modes can also be used to optimize results by preserving highlights and shadows across a wide range of apparent tones.
