Description from the seller
Victor Vasarely
Folklore Planétaire / Farbwelt - 1973
"Folklore Planétaire / Farbwelt" (also known as Planetary Folklore) is a famous art book and catalog by Victor Vasarely, the Hungarian-French artist universally recognized as the leader and founder of the Op Art movement (Optical Art).
Originally published in 1973 (in a co-edition among publishers such as Studio Bruckmann in Munich and the New York Graphic Society), this work represents a visual and theoretical synthesis of the artist's philosophy, centered on the universe of colors and standardized geometric forms.
Main features of the volume
Visual content and texts: The volume (about 88 pages) collects numerous black-and-white and color illustrations, accompanied in some editions by special inserts and transparent acetate overlays (clear plastic sheets printed) to show the kinetic interaction of the shapes.
Multilingual edition: The inner text is structured for an international audience, with contents translated in parallel into German, French, and English.
Collaborators: The book design was curated by Peter Wilhelm, while the photographic documentation is by the German photographer Stefan Moses.
The concept of "Folklore Planétaire": The title refers to Vasarely's ambitious project to create a universal visual alphabet (composed of chromatic and geometric units that can be combined). The artist's aim was to democratize art, making it accessible to anyone on the planet and directly integrable into modern urban architecture.
Conditions
The volume presents in overall very good condition. The dust jacket shows mild signs of wear at the edges, the cover well preserved. The binding solid. Interior pages clean, without creases or stains. A good collectible copy.
COMBINED SHIPPING available for multiple purchases.
