Beautiful decorative jardinière with a pronounced Rococo Revival appearance. The elegant oval form, richly worked scrolls, floral motifs, cartouches and graceful open handles give this object a particularly stately and classical look.

The jardinière rests on four beautifully shaped feet and is richly adorned with relief decoration all around. Prominent are the strong C- and S-shaped curls, the floral ornaments and the graceful handles that are incorporated into the design as a single unit. The darker patina in the recessed parts emphasizes the relief and adds extra depth to the whole.

Comparable European jardinières from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were often executed in Rococo Revival or Louis XV style, with floral ornaments, cartouches, openwork handles and decorative feet. Both silver-toned and brass- and bronze-finished versions are found.
