Vintage ceiling light made of heavy pressed glass – relief decor – Mid-Century, ca. 1960–1970

Atmospheric and strikingly designed vintage ceiling light made of heavy pressed glass, featuring a distinctive relief in which matte and clear glass sections alternate.

The lamp has a beautiful round shape with a richly built pattern. In the center there is a tight radial fan or sunburst motif, around it a decorative ring of rounded clear glass elements. The outside is finished in matte/frosted glass with vertical, drop-shaped reliefs. When the lamp is lit, this contrast between clear and frosted glass creates a beautiful play of light, reflection, and shadow.

This kind of compact ceiling lamp made of thick pressed glass was particularly popular in European interiors of the 1960s and 1970s. Comparable Mid-Century ceiling lights from this period are made in heavy pressed glass with geometric reliefs, where the glass itself is both diffuser and decorative element.

Also so-called bubble- or relief-pressed glass is frequently found on ceiling and wall lamps from the same period, precisely because of the strong light diffusion of the thick glass.

Based on design, material, and production technique, I would date this lamp to circa the 1960s–1970s. There is no clearly legible manufacturer mark visible in the photos shown, so the lamp is consciously not attributed to a specific designer or glass factory.
