Comprehensive Description

Beautiful and versatile collection of stereoscopy consisting of an original stereoscope and about 50 stereocard/stereogram cards from different periods and countries. A lot that traces the development of stereoscopic photography from ca. 1900 to the modern era.

Contents (selection):
• Stereoscope – wooden stereoscope (Holmes model) in particularly beautiful condition. Even the original black spacer plate is intact, which is rare and makes this specimen extra special.
• Netherlands (ca. 1900–1930) – incl. Volendam (Bridge, Harbor, Street, Washerwoman), Dordrecht (Great Church), Edam (flour mills and wood sawing mills), Enkhuizen (Drommedaris, 1959), Hoorn (Head Tower, 1933), Monnickendam (1931).
• Dutch East Indies – O. Kurkdjian, Surabaya – rare colonial views of the station building ("EXIT BAGGAGE CLAIM") and volcanic landscapes. Kurkdjian was court photographer to H.M. the Queen of the Netherlands.
• France & international – Julien Damoy (ca. 1900) – including Trocadéro, Place Saint-Michel, Scheveningen (Wilhelmina Wandelhoofd), Amsterdam (Tower of the Prince).
• Automobilia history (1907) – two rare cards from the Scottish Trials and route Broughton to Boot in Eskdale over Birker Moor with early cars.
• Underwood & Underwood (USA, 1908 / reprint 1978) – promotional stereocard sets around the “Underwood Travel System” and the Holmes stereoscope.
• International Stereoscopic Union (ca. 1980–2000) – about 30 modern graphic stereograms with abstract and geometric designs.

Condition:
The stereoscope is in exceptionally fine condition, complete with the original black spacer plate – a detail rarely preserved. Most cards are in good condition, some with light wear or aging consistent with their age. The modern ISU cards are virtually undamaged.

A unique collection that combines classic Dutch village views, colonial photography from the Dutch East Indies, early automobiles, French cityscapes, and modern stereograms. Very suitable for the collector or enthusiast of the history of stereoscopy.
