Description from the seller

A beautiful and authentic Ottoman copper pouring vessel (ibrik / aftaba), entirely handmade. This type of traditional jug was used within the Ottoman Empire for ritual ablutions before prayer or at formal meals. The vessel testifies to high-quality hand craftsmanship and features the classic, elegant S-shaped spout and an architectural, turret-shaped lid with the original functional hinge to the handle. Around the neck and the base of the spout are subtle engraved/carved decorative rings and patterns. The body displays exquisite hand-hammered traces. A very atmospheric and characteristic collectible for lovers of Islamic art and antique metalwork.
